Toxicity: something we dwell in on a regular basis, yet something we don’t pay enough attention to. Toxicity takes on many forms, one being those that we surround ourselves with.
It’s important to reevaluate the individuals we allow to take up space in our lives, both mentally & physically - on both social media & in real life. Do they artificially feed your ego, or do they promote genuine growth? Do they value you for you, or for their own personal interests? Do they respect you & your other relationships equally to that of their own? Do they challenge you positively, or negatively? Is your relationship with them on their own terms, or is it mutual?
We often underestimate how much impact those that we surround ourselves with have on our mental health. Relationships should nurture our mental health, not dilute or destroy it. Relationships should be constructive, not deconstructive. And you know what? We shouldn’t accept anything short of this. It’s not a simple process, but it’s sure as hell worth it - and so are you.
I think it’s time we all add a bit of self-care to our to-do list, don’t you?
